ESPN and Big 12 Announce Early Football Selections for 2008

ESPN and the Big 12 Conference have announced several college football matchups involving league squads for ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 telecasts this season, highlighted by two Thursday night Big 12 home games (additional selections to be determined as season progresses).  It will mark the first time the conference will host games for ESPN’s popular weekly Thursday night series.

The Thursday night telecasts will feature West Virginia at Colorado September 18 (at 8:30 p.m. ET) and Texas A&M at Texas on Thanksgiving night November 27 (at 8 p.m.).  ESPN previously televised the in-state rivalry between the Aggies and Longhorns from 1984-89 and 1991-93.

ABC will televise 18 games featuring the Big 12 this season plus the Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship.  As part of a separate two-year agreement with Fox Sports Net (FSN), seven Big 12-controlled contests will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2 each year.  Through a deal last year, ESPN televised regular-season Big 12 home games for the first time.
