Brett Favre Interview with Suzy Kolber on NFL Live
Extended Interview to Air This Weekend as SportsCenter Sunday Conversation

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre spoke with ESPN’s Suzy Kolber Friday in New York City in an exclusive one-on-one interview where he discussed retirement, his successor Aaron Rodgers and being the new cover athlete for EA Sports' "Madden NFL 09" videogame.  A portion of the interview aired during NFL Live Friday afternoon, while an extended interview will air during ESPN’s Sunday Conversation during the 11 p.m. ET edition of SportsCenter on Sunday, April 27.

Quotes from today’s Brett Favre interview with Suzy Kolber:

When you wake up in the morning now, what are your thoughts of football?

Favre: “Some days there are none, but that’s no different than – hate to say it – during the season.  There were some mornings when I woke up and said it’d sure be nice not to think about football.  At some point I have to get it in my head that, ‘you’re not a player no more.’  So, when that time comes – I have no idea.

“I feel good about my decision. Once again, this is not to stir the pot, I question it sometimes – ‘are you crazy?  You know you still love the game.’  I don’t love all the other stuff that goes along with it.  I’m retired.”

On previous public comments about possibly returning if Rodgers got injured next season …

“Well, I didn’t even think about that.  I feel a little bit guilty.  My mom brought this up to me.  She said there’s probably a bounty out on him, Aaron Rogers, now.  So, if he gets hurt before the season, it’s probably because of you.  I said, ‘I didn’t even think about that.’ And that got kind of blown out of proportion as everything does.  But, did I say that? Yes.  I did say that.  But, it was in a conversation like, ‘you know if something were to happen to Aaron, it would be tempting, if they called, to come back.’  But, I was being honest.  It would be.  I second guess the decision everyday.  I second guessed my decision last year.  With everything from a team standpoint and the way I played in my favor, why wouldn’t you come back?  So I thought about those things, still do.  Wonder whether -- knowing that I can still play – did I make the right decision?  It was the decision that I had to make at that time and I have to live with.”

On being the cover athlete for the "Madden NFL 09" videogame…

“I was honored.  Everyone who’s been on before was active, which was true. That was a little different.  But I thought maybe they’re doing that because of this curse thing, which I was aware of, never really.  Seen a lot of guys play the game and fights almost break out the night before football. I’m well aware of the game and the curse. I thought it’s probably a good thing that I’m retiring so that the curse doesn’t get me.

“I think it was more of a tribute -- to have a retired player on the cover.  I’m honored to be there.  I’m kind of a wild card on the game now.  Being retired, you can pay me whatever and put me on whatever team. Boy that would be -- that sounds awesome.”
