NASCAR 2008 on ESPN Deportes - Fact Sheet


ABOUT ESPN DEPORTES TV: Launched: January 7, 2004.
Households: Over 4 million Hispanic cable households, reaching more than 40 percent of the U.S. Hispanic cable homes.
Programming Philosophy: Devoted to serving the Latino sports fans – a fanbase that has been historically underserved – by offering high-quality, culturally relevant sports programming.
Programming Lineup:
More than 1,500 live and/or original hours of sports programming presented annually including MLB, NBA, NFL, Winter baseball from the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Venezuela; Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (summer baseball from Mexico); UEFA Champions League, Mexican First Division soccer, Classic Boxing, Wimbledon, French Open, Australian Open, IRL Indy Car Series, NASCAR, South American World Cup Qualifiers, Caribbean World Series and ONEFA (college football from Mexico).
History: ESPN Deportes began as a Sunday night programming block in July 2000 when ESPN and Major League Baseball offered Spanish-language telecasts of the Home Run Derby and select Sunday Night Baseball games. Starting in 2001, ESPN Deportes began offering full Sunday Night Baseball and Sunday Night NFL schedules, as well as boxing.
NASCAR ON ESPN DEPORTES With the return of NASCAR to ESPN in 2007, ESPN Deportes televised the NASCAR Busch Series in Spanish – the first time the sport was ever televised in Spanish in the United States. In 2008 ESPN Deportes will offer exclusive Spanish-language flag-to-flag coverage of 35 NASCAR Nationwide Series, 17 NASCAR Sprint Cup races, including the 10-race “Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
ESPN DEPORTES COMMENTATORS:

Andrés Agulla - A motorsports broadcast veteran, Agulla handled play-by-play for ESPN’s Spanish-language coverage of the IndyCar Series and World Rally Championship. In 2007 he added the responsibilities of handling play-by-play commentary for the network’s Spanish-language NASCAR coverage. Agulla also co-hosts RPM Semanal, ESPN Deportes’ weekly motor sports news and information show.

Alex Pombo – A former driver, Pombo joined ESPN Deportes in 2005 and handles Spanish-language analysis for NASCAR Nationwide Series, IRL IndyCar Series and World Rally Championship alongside Agulla. He also serves as an analyst for RPM Semanal.

 

ADDITIONAL MOTORSPORTS PROGRAMMING:

RPM Semanal, a weekly motorsports program with highlights, interviews, and insider news with emphasis on Latino drivers. RPM Semanal will be aired Thursday nights starting February 2008.

SportsCenter – ESPN Deportes’ 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week news gathering operation will provide in-depth, up-to-the-minute NASCAR news, analysis and perspective through highlights, features, interviews and on-site reports. A. Agulla and A. Pombo will provide season-long NASCAR breaking news, updates and analysis.

BEYOND TELEVISION: ESPN DEPORTES will provide the most comprehensive coverage of the 2008 NASCAR Series using all of its multimedia assets. In addition to television, the breath and scope of ESPN Deportes’ branded services include ESPN Deportes Radio, ESPNdeportes.com and ESPN Deportes La Revista.

Affiliates: The country’s only around-the-clock national Spanish-language sports radio network. ESPN Deportes Radio provides programming to more than 25 affiliates nationwide, reaching more than 45 percent U.S. Hispanic market.
Market Presence:
Affiliates in 12 of the top 25 U.S. Hispanic markets – Los Angeles, New York (the New Jersey affiliate is part of the New York DMA), Dallas, Phoenix, San Diego, Fresno, El Paso, Albuquerque, Austin, Atlanta, Las Vegas and Tucson. The radio network is also available nationally on SIRUS Satellite Radio.
