Shaun King

Pro Football Analyst

University: Tulane University

Joined ESPN: 2007

Shaun King joined ESPN as a pro football analyst in July 2007, appearing primarily on First Take, NFL Live and ESPNEWS.  He also contributed to ESPN’s weeklong coverage of Super Bowl XLII.  In addition to his NFL responsibilities, King was named a game analyst for ESPN’s second season of Arena Football League telecasts in 2008.

King spent six years (1999-2004) as an NFL quarterback after being drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round (50th pick) of the 1999 NFL Draft.  As a rookie, King took over the starting quarterback position and led Tampa Bay to a 4-1 record in the final five weeks of the regular season with an 82.4 passer rating and an appearance in the NFC Championship game.

King’s best year as a pro was in 2000 when he completed 75 percent of his passes for 2,769 yards and a rating of 75.8.  Following his years in Tampa, King spent a year as a back-up quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals.  He also played part of the 2007 Arena Football season for the Las Vegas Gladiators, including one game when he threw for 10 touchdown passes.

A native of St. Petersburg, Fla., King attended Tulane University where he helped revive the Green Wave program.  As a senior, King set the NCAA passing efficiency record with a 183.3 mark and left Tulane as the school’s leader in total offense (9,468 yards), passing yards (8,419), touchdown passes (70), pass completions (646), and pass attempts (1,163).

King, who resides in Tampa, founded the Shaun King Foundation in 2003, which provides educational and cultural programs to underprivileged youth.
