Experienced sports reporter and anchor Matt Winer joined ESPN as an ESPNEWS anchor in January 2001 and regularly co-anchors editions of ESPN’s flagship program SportsCenter.  Since 2004-05, Winer has also regularly hosted ESPN’s NBA FastBreak show, the nightly program featuring highlights, news and information from around the league.

Winer worked at several television stations across the county, including KTVQ-TV, in Billings, Montana; WJTV-TV in Jackson, Mississippi; WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan; and KSDK-TV in St. Louis, Missouri.  He has scoped the range of sports reporting, covering events such as rodeo competitions, high school sports, all three divisions of college athletics, and both minor and major league sports.

Winer has reported several memorable sports moments including the St. Louis Rams during their Super Bowl championship season, Mark McGwire’s 70 home run summer, and the U.S. Track and Field championships when Jackie Joyner-Kersee ran in her last meet.  He also provided coverage of the St. Louis Cardinals and Blues during post-season action.

Winer has been nominated for four regional sports Emmy’s.

Winer graduated from the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism with a bachelor’s degree in 1991.
