Dan Shulman joined ESPN in 1995 as a play-by-play commentator for Major League Baseball and ESPN and ESPN2 college basketball telecasts. Alongside analyst Dick Vitale, Shulman calls Saturday Primetime men’s college basketball games as well as select games from a variety of conferences. Through 2007, he called Wednesday night MLB games and now also works select NBA games. For the 2008 season, Shulman will call Monday night MLB games.
From 2002-2007, Shulman served as lead play-by-play commentator for Major League Baseball on ESPN Radio. He also has called the playoffs for the network since 1998. Previously, Shulman handled play-by-play calls for the Toronto Blue Jays on The Sports Network (TSN), Canada’s national sports network (1995-2001). He was also play-by-play commentator for TSN’s NBA package of Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies games.
Shulman worked for Canadian Television (CTV) at the 1994 Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway, and the 1994 FIFA World Basketball Championship in Toronto.
Shulman has served in a variety of host roles for several networks, including: The Leafs This Week, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ weekly magazine show on CFTO (1992-95); The Major League Report and Baseball Today shows for The Fan, a 24-hour sports radio station in Toronto; Prime Time Sports, a syndicated sports radio show carried on stations across Canada; Blue Jays pre- and post-game shows on the Telemedia Sports Network, and various ESPN Radio weekend programming (1992-94).
In 2000 and 2007, he received the Sports Media Canada Broadcaster of the Year award. He is the first two-time winner of the award.
Shulman is a 1989 graduate of the University of Western Ontario, where he received a degree in actuarial science.
