Kara Lawson, a point guard for the WNBA’s Sacramento Monarchs, joined ESPN in 2004 as a women’s college basketball analyst. In 2006 she added NBA courtside reporting to her duties. Lawson served as a color analyst during the 2004 and 2005 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship. In 2006, she became a studio analyst during regular-season women’s college basketball games and during the Championship. She also served as a member of the commentating team for the 2004 and 2005 WNBA drafts. Lawson joined the NBA on ESPN team for the 2006-2007 season as a courtside reporter. On Jan. 12th, 2007 she became the first woman analyst of an NBA game when usual analyst Tom Tolbert was delayed at the airport and missed the telecast. Since the 2004-2005 NBA season Lawson has worked as a studio analyst on the Sacramento Kings’ local broadcast pre-game, halftime, and post-game studio show, House Party Live, on Comcast Sports Net. In her four seasons with the Monarchs, Lawson has started at point guard, leading the team to the WNBA title in 2003. At the University of Tennessee she played under the legendary coach Pat Summit and was part of the team that defeated the U.S. women’s national team that went on to win gold in Sydney in 2000. An Academic All-American, she graduated with a degree in finance. As a senior she won the Torchbearer Award, the highest undergraduate honor at UT. Off the court, Lawson is active with Race for the Cure, attending Races in Tennessee during her college years, and in Sacramento as a professional with the Monarchs.
