Sunday Night Baseball Play-by-Play Commentator

Jon Miller, an award-winning broadcast veteran of more than 20 years, is the play-by-play commentator for ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball telecasts, a position he has held since 1990 when the series began. He has also called Division Series playoff games for the network from 1996 to 2000 and from 2003 through 2006, as well as World Series games for ESPN Radio since 1998. Miller called the semifinals and championship game of the inaugural World Baseball Classic in 2006. In 2002, he worked ESPN-produced Division Series telecasts on ABC Family.

Miller is the radio and television voice of the San Francisco Giants (since 1997). From 1983 to 1996, he called Baltimore Orioles games for the WBAL Radio Network (also for WMAR-TV from 1991-93).

He is recognized as one of the best baseball commentators in the business. In 1996, Miller received his second CableACE Award in the "Sports Play-by-Play" category for his work on ESPN; his first came in 1990. In 1986, he was named "Baltimore's Best Radio Sportscaster" by Baltimore Magazine and "Best Play-by-Play Broadcaster" by Washingtonian Magazine.

Following the 1988 season, Miller served as play-by-play commentator for ESPN's telecasts of the Major League Baseball Tour of Japan. In addition, he filled in occasionally for NBC's Saturday afternoon coverage of Major League Baseball from 1986-89.

Miller's first baseball broadcast duties came in 1974 when he teamed with Monte Moore on the Oakland A's radio and TV network. Later, he performed in a similar capacity for the Texas Rangers (1978-79) and the Boston Red Sox (1980-82).

In addition to baseball, he has gained broadcast experience in the sports of hockey, soccer and basketball, including a stint as play-by-play commentator for the NBA's Golden State Warriors (1979-82) and the NHL's California Golden Seals (1972-73). Previously, Miller was the voice of University of San Francisco basketball from 1975-80. His soccer background includes play-by-play duties for both the San Jose Earthquakes (1975-76) and Washington Diplomats (1977) of the North American Soccer League.

Miller, a popular banquet speaker, is known for his imitations of such baseball announcers as Harry Caray and Vin Scully. He has made frequent appearances as a guest on ESPN's Up Close. He was a guest on Late Night with David Letterman and The Dennis Miller Show. In 1998, his first book, Confessions of a Baseball Purist, was published.

A native of the San Francisco area, Miller attended San Mateo College. He was born October 11, 1951 and is married with four children.
