Neil Everett joined ESPN as an ESPNEWS anchor in July 2000, coming from KGMB-TV, a CBS affiliate in Honolulu, where he was the sports director and weekday anchor. He now is an anchor on ESPN’s SportsCenter, the network’s flagship sport news and highlights program, and is seen on either the 11 p.m. ET or the 1 a.m. edition of the show. Everett came to ESPN after working for 15 years at television stations in Honolulu. Working over the years at three different stations – the CBS, ABC and FOX affiliates – he progressed from roles behind the scenes to being in front of the camera. He held the roles of assignment editor and associate producer before getting a shot as a sports anchor one weekend when the two regulars were unavailable. Eventually he became a full-time anchor and reporter. In addition, he served as an assistant athletic director and sports information director at Hawaii Pacific University (1986-00). His role there included serving as the school’s compliance officer with the NCAA. He also was the communications director for the Jeep Aloha and Jeep Oahu bowls (1994-99). A native of Spokane, Wash., Everett is a 1984 graduate of the University of Oregon where he earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism. -- 30 -- |
