Motorsports broadcast veteran Dave Burns returned to ESPN and ABC as a NASCAR pit reporter for 2007 after serving in a similar capacity on NBC and TNT from 2001-2006. Previously, Burns worked as a reporter on ESPN2’s coverage of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1999 and 2000.
Burns began his career in racing in 1990 when he worked as the public address announcer for the American Speed Association. In 1993, he became an analyst for the ASA’s radio broadcasts and later that year became the series’ radio play-by-play announcer.
In 1996, the Kalamazoo, Mich., native got his first assignment as a television pit reporter for TNN’s ASA telecasts. He then relocated to Charlotte, N.C., and worked various motorsports telecasts for TNN in 1997 and 1998, including ASA, swamp buggy racing, motorcycles and monster trucks.
Burns graduated in 1985 from Taylor University in Upland, Ind., where he received his bachelor’s degree in business and systems analysis.
