German Von Hartenstein, who most recently served as ESPN Brasil’s Chief Financial Officer and Affiliates Sales Director, was promoted to General Manager of ESPN in Brasil on June 15, 2005. He is based in ESPN’s offices in Brazil and reports to Russell Wolff, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of ESPN International. As General Manager, Von Hartenstein assumes responsibility for all of ESPN’s operations in Brazil, including affiliate sales, ad sales, programming, production, marketing and business development. Von Hartenstein joined ESPN Brasil in 1996 as Chief Financial Officer, playing a key role in the growth of the network. He has most recently been responsible for the day-to-day and strategic financial planning for ESPN Brasil, as well as affiliate sales. Prior to joining ESPN, Von Hartenstein was the Finance Director at Handleman Do Brasil LTDA from December 1995 to June 1996. Here, his accomplishments include the implementation of the Treasury Department and the creation of a finance control system to maintain tracking of the 15,000 item margin. He also spent four years at Boehringer Ingelheim LTDA where he was a planning and control coordinator and then a veterinary business unit controller. After leaving Boehringer he became the Finance Manager at Tambrands Brasil Ltd., where he developed and applied a new Financial Control System that aided in the recovery of the company’s credibility. Von Hartenstein also took the role of Controller at the Magazine Division at Abril S.A. from May 1995 to December 1995. Von Hartenstein, a Buenos Aires native, received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration at FAAP in 1986. He received his MBA at IBMEC in 1991 as well as his EDP at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 2001. He is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
