Gery Gerould

ESPN2 NHRA Pit Reporter

Joined ESPN: 1990

Gary Gerould joined ESPN and ABC’s auto racing team as a pit reporter in March 1990. He currently works in that capacity on ESPN2’s coverage of NHRA drag racing.

From 1979 to 1989 Gerould worked as a pit reporter for NBC’s coverage of auto racing. He also called play-by-play for NBC’s pro football coverage and was a member of NBC’s broadcast team for the XXIV Olympics in Seoul.

Gerould has been active in the broadcasting profession since landing a job at KHSL-TV and radio in Chico, California, following his 1962 graduation from Anderson University in Indiana.

His interest in auto racing began at age 14 when he worked on a part-time basis at WMDN-Radio in his hometown of Midland, Mich., as a sports reporter. From 1965-1977 he worked at KCRA-TV in Sacramento, Calif., then left to pursue freelance auto racing assignments as both a commercial spokesman and broadcaster.

In addition to his auto racing work, Gerould is the radio play-by-play announcer for the Sacramento Kings, a position he has held since 1985. He has the distinction of having called more than 1,700 NBA games, and ranks as one of the longest-tenured broadcasters in the league.

Gerould and his wife, Marlene, have a daughter, Beth, and a son, Bob. He lives in Sacramento.
